Das Dinosaurier Museum Altmühltal in Denkendorf ist ein Hit für Kids
Hi there, T. Rex!

What was it like when dinosaurs ruled the earth from the air, on land and in the oceans? Why did these giants suddenly become extinct? Little amateur archaeologists will be sure to get to the bottom of these and other questions in the primaeval forest of the Altmühltal Dinosaur Museum

Dinosaurier-Park Altmühltal

Children can experience science through play at the Dinopark near Denkendorf in the Altmühltal Valley Nature Park. There, you will encounter the world’s only real skeleton of a juvenile Tyrannosaurus rex – over 66 million years old! Or “Dracula”, the largest pterosaur skeleton ever found, standing upright as tall as a giraffe.

You can admire both dinos in the museum hall. Many more fossils and original skeletons are also on display there.

Dig up a dinosaur!

Outdoors, a one-and-a-half-kilometre-long adventure trail brings the giants of prehistory close enough for young and old to touch. You will embark on an exciting journey through the ages of the earth – from the Cretaceous to the modern era – and pass through four hundred million years of evolutionary history. You will also be “accompanied” by more than seventy lifelike dinosaur replicas such as the enormous Brachiosaurus or giant Diplodocus.

A wide range of stations in the “Hands-on Hall” – such as the search for fossil shark teeth or the uncovering of a Diplodocus skeleton – will inspire the children and encourage them to explore and discover. For example, the little ones can compare their ideas of how big, fast or strong the dinos were with their own abilities.

Two large playgrounds

When it’s time for a break, there is the restaurant by the lake or the secluded forest beer garden. They offer delicious organic dishes, as well as vegetarian and vegan alternatives. Two large playgrounds are each nearby.

The Dinosaur Museum is located just two kilometres from motorway exit 59 on the A9. Sufficient parking spaces for cars are available. You can also make your way to this dinosaur realm by bus from Ingolstadt central station. With the exception of one exhibit, the facility is barrier-free.
