Allgäu Emmentaler
As far back as 1821, the Swiss dairyman Johannes Althaus produced the first Allgäu Emmental in Weiler. The tradition continues to this day - especially in the twelve mountain pasture dairies of the Allgäu Cheese Route. Each of these dairies is committed to only using silo-free milk from hay-fed cows.

Beer pleasure
There are over 30 breweries in the Allgäu, which impress with their high quality, smart ideas and overriding passion. Moreover, the highest mini-brewery is situated at 1,804 metres above sea level and can only be reached on foot - at the Enzianhütte near Oberstdorf, the Dunkle Weizen (dark wheat beer) is brewed on the premises and named "Gipfelstürmer" (The Summiteer).
