Barbara Stadler: Boutique-Besitzerin und Wirtin aus Anzing
Modern costume trends for dessert

A country inn in Anzing, the “Kirchenwirt”, offers traditional cuisine and modern costume trends. Barbara Stadler runs Bavaria’s first pub boutique

Traditional Costume Designer Barbara Stadler

Barbara Stadler walks through the door of the inn, with her pink skirt and pink sash fluttering. She welcomes the guests in the “Kirchenwirt”, clears two plates as she passes and then opens a large glass door. Her grandparents once ran a butcher's shop in the adjacent inn, now Barbara Stadler offers modern costume trends. Since January 2019, she has been the owner of “Diese Elli” in Anzing in the Upper Bavarian district of Ebersberg – probably the first inn-boutique in Bavaria.

„Monaco Franze“ as name giver The unusual name of the shop is inspired by the Bavarian TV cult series “Monaco Franze”, in which “Diese Elli” (“that Elli”) was always “messing around”. “Everyone in Bavaria knows it, I find it funny”, says Stadler.

For her first own business, she had gone in search of a cult figure. There is also a nice personal connection: Stadler’s middle name is Elisabeth, her mother is called Gabriele. Dirndl and traditional Bavarian costumes, however, cannot be bought from the former Beer Queen.

Modern costume trends are served in the restaurant

“I grapple with them and reinterpret them as modern costume trends. We wanted to create an alternative to the Dirndl, a lifestyle costume”, says Stadler. The customers wear her skirts, jackets, sashes or scarves on all occasions where traditional dress but also evening dress is required.

In the production, Stadler relies on her mother as the creative brains behind the family company and on small manufacturers from all over Bavaria. She procures special fabrics and selected pieces of jewellery from Italy and Austria.

The guests in the rustic inn, which Stadler’s great-grandparents acquired in 1930, are enthusiastic about fashion. They are new trends with style and taste: While she serves the speciality Ochsenbackerl (Ox cheeks) with celery puree and natural carrots, Stadler whets the appetite for her modern costume trends.

When she is not taking care of the inn business, shopping or her new online shop, Stadler loves to walk to the nearby Neufarner Berg. From the top, hikers have a beautiful view of the community of Anzing.

Christkindl markets in Upper Bavaria
In winter, the Christkindl markets in the region are an experience for young and old guests. I can recommend one in particular: We have been hosting a festive Christmas market around our inn for years.

Hike on the Neufarner Berg
I like to go to the Neufarner Berg in the district of Ebersberg and look over Anzing from there. The hill is not very high, but you get a wonderful view of the town. In the region, I really enjoy staying in Munich. Don't miss out on a raft trip on the Isar from Wolfratshausen to Munich.

Berchtesgaden Alps
I enjoy hiking and mountaineering – preferably in the Berchtesgaden Alps. I think it’s one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in Bavaria. My grandma comes from the region too. At the Watzmann or Steinernes Meer, it is simply a dream. I also do cycling tours – but in my vicinity, in the beautiful Ebersberger Forst.
