Destination Kelheim

Description

Welcome!

Cast Off in Kelheim: From Weltenburg Abbey to the Altmühl Valley

In Kelheim, you’ll hear “Ship ahoy!” twice: At the Danube pier, excursion boats set sail and travel through the impressive Danube Gorge to Weltenburg Abbey. There, the monastery tavern awaits you with its shaded beer garden and freshly brewed beer from the world’s oldest monastery brewery. Five steps lead up to the Baroque monastery church.

On the other side of town is the Altmühltal boat dock. From here, you can take a “mini-cruise” through the picturesque Altmühltal valley. During the leisurely trip from Kelheim to Riedenburg, the scenic landscape of the Altmühltal valley—with its castles, ruins, and juniper heaths—unfolds before your eyes. For those who just want to take a short boat tour, the castle tour in Riedenburg is the perfect choice.

On these accessible ships, you’ll not only enjoy magnificent views but can also treat yourself to the onboard dining options. The MS Kelheim has an elevator leading to the sun deck. You can call to find out if the ship is in service on a given day and at what times. For more information, visit www.schifffahrt-kelheim.de

Captains with their own boats will find docking spots and campsites at the Haidhof recreational boat harbor.

The Kelheim district also offers the KEXI on-demand bus service. This allows you to get around the various towns with flexibility. There is neither a fixed schedule nor a fixed route. The on-demand bus collects ride requests within the time window of the desired trip, allowing passengers with similar destinations to share a ride. All KEXI vehicles are accessible via a wheelchair ramp and can accommodate passengers in wheelchairs. Unfortunately, electric wheelchairs cannot be transported. Please let us know if you will be bringing a wheelchair when you register.
For more information, visit www.kexi.de.

The taxi company MH Taxi Kelheim (www.keh.taxi) offers, among other services, wheelchair transportation and transport for passengers in a reclining position.

Parking spaces for people with disabilities are available directly at the boat dock.
