Holiday inspiration "On the road with a handbike"
Destination Kelheim
Description
The holiday region around Kelheim can be explored very well by handcycle: In the Altmühltal, for example, you can cycle along the Main-Danube Canal without any major climbs, the hilly Hallertau offers something for more athletic demands, and on the Five-Rivers Cycle Path you are traveling several days between the cities of Nuremberg, Amberg, Regensburg, Kelheim, and Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate.
The Weltenburg cycle path wonderfully combines sightseeing and handcycling on 36 km. As a circular tour, the cycle path leads from Kelheim to Abensberg and back again. Highlights along the route are the boat trip through the famous Danube Gorge with its 70-meter-high cliffs that rise steeply up from the Danube river, Weltenburg Abbey, the historic old town of Abensberg with its city museum and Kuchlbauer’s World of Beer. It is important to know that the Weltenburg cycle path is only suitable for handcycling in combination with the boat trip from Kelheim to Weltenburg from mid-March to the beginning of November. Therefore, please note the current time tables of the riverboats. In order to protect nature, the riverboats are not allowed to navigate the Danube during low and high water. You can find up-to-date information at www.schifffahrt-kelheim.de
The warm thermal water of the Limes-Therme spa resort in Bad Gögging are perfect for a pleasant end to the day or even days of relaxation between cycling tours.
