The landscape of the Altmühltal Nature Park, with its rugged cliffs, juniper heaths, medieval castles, and romantic villages, looks like something out of a picture book. The town of Riedenburg, with its three castles—Rosenburg witFalkenhof, and the ruins of Rabenstein and Tachenstein—is particularly worth seeing. A stroll around the town pond offers a beautiful view of the rolling countryside and the castles. Starting in the spring, concerts and events take place on the floating stage. At the Crystal Museum, the world’s largest rock crystal cluster awaits you. Equally unforgettable is a boat trip on the Main-Danube Canal. The Tourist Information Office in Riedenburg will be happy to advise you on the various excursion destinations and events.

Getting There and Mobility:

In general, traveling by car is recommended. If arriving by train, you will need to transfer to local public transport from the Saal an der Donau station. Alternatively, the taxi company MH Taxi Kelheimoffers wheelchair transport and transport for patients in a lying position.

There is good local public transport (ÖPNV) between Kelheim, Essing, and Riedenburg. From May 1 through October 3, in addition to the ÖPNV, recreational buses with bike trailers run on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. All recreational buses are low-floor buses.

The Kelheim district also offers the KEXI on-demand bus service. This allows you to travel flexibly within the respective towns. There is neither a fixed schedule nor a fixed route. The on-demand bus collects ride requests within the desired time window, so that passengers with similar destinations can share a ride. All KEXI vehicles are wheelchair-accessible via a ramp and can transport passengers in wheelchairs. Unfortunately, electrical wheelchairs cannot be transported. Please notify us of your need for a wheelchair when 

registering.
