Destination Kelheim

Description

Holiday region Kelheim – juniper heaths, hop gardens and Bavarian cosiness

The holiday region Kelheim is located not far from the UNESCO world heritage city Regensburg and offers a varied mixture of experiences of nature, sightseeing and wellness. A perfect starting point for excursions is the beautiful historic old town of Kelheim: From here, riverboats take guests on boat rides either through the Danube Gorge to Weltenburg Abbey or on a "mini cruise" into the Altmühltal to Riedenburg. Especially popular are the cycle paths along the Main-Danube Canal. They lead past numerous attractions and picturesque places without any major climbs.

The landscape changes drastically north of Kelheim as the first hop gardens of the Hallertau begin to grow beyond the city walls of Abensberg. For more than 200 years, hops have been grown and beers brewed in the hilly Holledau, as the locals affectionately call their home. Hop ambassadors, beer sommeliers, and master brewers gladly introduce you to the art of beer brewing and hop cultivation.

Roman influences can still be experienced in the health resort Bad Gögging: The largest Roman state spa north of the Alps was once located here. Today, the Limes-Therme spa resort pampers its guests with their three natural remedies – moor, sulphur water, and thermal water.

More information at www.freizeitbusse.de

In the cities of Kelheim (connection to Saal an der Donau train station) and Neustadt an der Donau / Bad Gögging, there is also the KEXI dial-a-bus from Monday to Sunday. With this bus you can travel flexibly in the respective cities. There is no fixed timetable or fixed route. The dial-a-bus collects ride requests in the time frame of your own ride request so that passengers with a similar destination can share a ride together. All KEXI vehicles are barrier-free via a wheelchair ramp and can also transport passengers in wheelchairs. Unfortunately, e-wheelchairs cannot be transported. Please announce wheelchairs when registering. From autumn 2023 there will also be a KEXI dial-a-bus in the city of Riedenburg.
