Animal Outdoor Area with Stone Age Cave in the National Park Center Falkenstein

Description

In addition to lynxes and wolves, two former inhabitants of the Bavarian Forest can be observed in the TIER-FREIGELÄNDE: Wild horses and primeval cattle. While wild horses populated the post-glacial steppe landscape, primitive cattle lived in Bavaria's forests until the early Middle Ages. This unusual duo thematically links the natural enclosures with the STONE Caves. There, thanks to an artificial rock backdrop with wall paintings, visitors are transported back to the Palaeolithic Age and experience the changes in climate, landscape and fauna from then to now. A three-kilometre circular walk, which you should take about one and a half hours to complete, takes you past all the sites.
