City museum Kaufbeuren
Description
Experience history! The Kaufbeuren town museum invites you on a multifaceted journey of discovery into the past!
In an idyllic location in the heart of the old town, visitors can learn more about the eventful history of the former imperial city. The "Stadtspuren" (traces of the city) sections tell the story of the city and its inhabitants from its beginnings to the 20th century. An ensemble of rural parlours, which was presented in the museum as early as 1901, is part of the permanent exhibition, as is the extensive collection of crucifixes. On the top floor, the section "Mit spitzer Feder" (with a sharp pen) invites visitors to get to know the Kaufbeuern writers Sophie von la Roche, Ludwig Ganghofer and Hans Magnus Enzensberger.
The Stadtmuseum was reopened in 2013 after extensive renovation. The modern design, various hands-on activities, an audio guide and media stations provide lively access to history and turn a visit to the museum into an experience. Tactile stations for the blind and visually impaired are available as part of the "Blind leading the blind" programme.
