Youth Hostel Würzburg

Description

Our youth hostel in the "Old Main Quarter" is part of Würzburg's many cultural treasures. With 226 beds in 60 rooms, it is part of a building ensemble from the 18th century and has a dining room with seating for 140, a lounge, bar, game tables and board games to borrow, recreation room with table tennis, table football and Wii lounge, with TV and two terraces with seating.

Class trips - Würzburg Youth Hostel welcomes you with a wide range of cultural and leisure activities for your next class trip. We also offer programmes with experiential elements of education to strengthen the class community.
Rehearsals - In our versatile rehearsal rooms you will find the right inspiration for your music group. We also offer space for large choirs with up to 150 participants.
Smaller choirs and music groups have the opportunity to give a small final concert on our outdoor stage (8 sqm) after their successful rehearsal stay with us.

Our tip: Youth hostels are not always easy to classify as "wheelchair accessible" or "wheelchair friendly". Before you decide on a stay, let the hostel team advise you in detail.

All areas relevant for testing meet the quality criteria of the label "Accessibility certified - partially accessible for people with walking disabilities and wheel chair users".

Some information on accessibility are listed below. For detailed information please see the evaluation report.

  • There is one marked parking space for people with disabilities (parking space size: 700 cm x 500 cm). The surface quality of the car park is easy to walk and drive on.
  • The path from the car park to the entrance is 40 m long. It is easy to walk and drive on and has a maximum longitudinal gradient of 1,5 % over a distance of 30 m.
  • The building is steplessly accessible via the main entrance.
  • Al evaluated rooms and facilities available to the guests are accessible at ground level or via a ramp and an elevator.
  • The ramp at the ground floor has a maximum gradient of 7 % and a total length of 7 m.
  • The elevator cabin measures 102 cm x 140 cm. The elevator door is 88 cm wide.
  • Almost all evaluated passageways/doors available to the guests are at least 90 cm wide. Exception: the toilet door on the 2nd floor is 88 cm wide and the corridor door to the Aula is 69 cm wide.
  • The reception desk is at its lowest point 117 cm high.
  • There are no wheelchair accessible tables in the dining room (maximum height 80 cm, wheelchair accessible at a height of 67 cm and a depth of 30 cm).

Room 105 (multi-bedroom, 1st upper floor)

  • The maneuvering spaces are:
    • in front of essential immobile furnishings (e.g. wardrobe) 200 cm x 150 cm;
    • left of the bed 90 cm x 200 cm;
    • right of the bed 120 cm x 200 cm.
  • The bed is wheelchair accessible.
  • The bed is 47 cm high.
  • A nursing bed cannot be provided.

Room 106 (multi-bedroom, 1st upper floor)

  • The maneuvering spaces in front of essential immobile furnishings (e.g. wardrobe) and left and right of the bed are at least 200 cm x 200 cm.
  • The bed is wheelchair accessible.
  • The bed is 47 cm high.
  • A nursing bed cannot be provided.

Bathroom for people with disabilities for room 105 and 106 (1st upper floor)

  • The door opens inwards.
  • The toilet door can be opened with another key. The key is available at the information desk.
  • The maneuvering spaces in the bathroom are:
    • in front of/behind the door at least 200 cm x 142 cm;
    • in front of the toilet 200 cm x 128 cm;
    • in front of the washbasin 200 cm x 142 cm;
    • left of the toilet 43 cm x 70 cm and right of the toilet 120 cm x 70 cm.
  • There are handles which can be folded up on the right and left of the toilet.
  • The washbasin is wheelchair accessible.
  • The mirror can be seen while standing or sitting.
  • The shower is accessible without thresholds.
  • The maneuvering space in the shower is 150 cm x 128 cm.
  • A shower seat is available or can be provided if required.
  • There are horizontally mounted grab handles in the shower.
  • An alarm trigger (cord, button) is present.

Public toilet for people with disabilities (ground floor)

  • The maneuvering spaces are:
    • in front of/behind the door at least 150 cm x 150 cm;
    • in front of the toilet 180 cm x 140 cm;
    • in front of the washbasin 180 cm x 157 cm;
    • left of the toilet 180 cm x 70 cm and right of the toilet 43 cm x 70 cm .
  • There are handles which can be folded up on the right and left of the toilet.
  • The washbasin is wheelchair accessible.
  • The mirror can be seen while standing or sitting.
  • An alarm trigger (cord, button) is present.

Public toilet for people with disabilities (2nd upper floor)

  • The door opens inwards.
  • The maneuvering spaces are:
    • in front of/behind the door at least 120 cm x 200 cm
    • in front of the toilet 200 cm x 106 cm;
    • in front of the washbasin 200 cm x 120 cm;
    • left of the toilet 90 cm x 70 cm and right of the toilet 53 cm x 70 cm.
  • There are handles which can be folded up on the right and left of the toilet.
  • The washbasin has limited wheelchair access.
  • The mirror can be seen while standing or sitting.
  • An alarm trigger (cord, button) is present.

  • Assistance dogs are allowed in relevant areas/rooms.
  • Outdoor paths have visually contrasting and tactilely detectable sidewalk boundaries.
  • The entrance is visually rich in contrast and recognizable by a tactile change of floor covering.
  • All evaluated areas usable by the guest are well illuminated, i.e. bright and glare-free.
  • There are no visually contrasting or tactilely detectable floor indicators.
  • The paths in corridors/aisles are predominantly visually contrasted to the surroundings.
  • There are no revolving or rotating doors.
  • There are a few glass doors without safety markings.
  • An outgoing emergency call in the elevator is confirmed audibly. The stopping position is not announced by spoken commands. The operating controls are not visually rich in contrast but tactilely detectable. Alternatively stairs are available.
  • Steps are not visually rich in contrast. Stairs have handrails on both sides.
  • There is no menu in large print or Braille.
  • Information is not available in Braille or prismatic writing.

  • There is no clearly visible alarm.
  • There is no audio induction loop at the reception desk.
  • An outgoing emergency call in the elevator is confirmed visually. Alternatively stairs are available.
  • In the dining room there are tables with bright and glare-free lighting, on which there are no lamps standing or hanging that restrict the field of vision or eye contact. There is a seating area with low background noises (e.g. seating corner, separate room).
  • WiFi is offered.
  • There is at least one electrical outlet available near the bed.
  • The ringing or knocking on the door is not indicated by a flashing signal which can be perceived in all rooms.
