Juniper heaths, hop gardens and Bavarian hospitality

Accessible Holiday Region Kelheim

The holiday region of Kelheim is located not far from the UNESCO World Heritage city of Regensburg and offers a diverse mix of nature experiences, sightseeing and wellness. A great starting point for excursions is the historic old town of Kelheim: From here, you can take a boat through the Danube Gorge to Weltenburg Abbey or enjoy a “mini cruise” along the Altmühl Valley to Riedenburg. The cycling paths along the Main-Danube Canal are particularly popular. They lead without major inclines past numerous sights and picturesque towns.

North of Kelheim, the landscape changes, and behind the city walls of Abensberg, the first hop gardens of the Hallertau hops region begin. For over 200 years, hops have been grown and beer brewed in the rolling hills of Holledau, as the locals lovingly call their homeland. Hop ambassadors, beer sommeliers and master brewers tell the story of brewing and hop cultivation.

In the spa town of Bad Gögging, the Roman influence is still felt. It was once home to the largest Roman state bath north of the Alps. Today, the Limes-Therme spa spoils its guests with its three natural remedies: peat, sulphur and thermal water.

This service offers flexible travel within the respective towns, with no fixed timetable or route.  The bus gathers ride requests within the desired time window, allowing passengers with similar destinations to share the ride. All KEXI vehicles are equipped with wheelchair ramps and are fully accessible for passengers in wheelchairs. Unfortunately, electric wheelchairs cannot be transported. Please notify in advance when booking if a wheelchair is required. Starting in autumn 2023, there will also be a KEXI on-demand bus in the town of Riedenburg.
