All areas relevant for testing meet the quality criteria of the label "Accessibility tested - accessible for people with walking disabilities and wheelchair users".

Some information on accessibility are listed below. For detailed information please see the evaluation report.

Information centre

  • There are four marked parking spaces for people with disabilities (parking space size: 400 cm x 500 cm).
  • The path from the car park to the entrance is 60 m long. 
  • The bus stop “Haus der Berge” is 90 m away.
  • The building is steplessly accessible.
  • All evaluated rooms and facilities available to the guests are steplessly accessible at ground level or via ramps or elevators.
  • The ramps in the exhibitions in the Information Centre has a maximum gradient of 6 % and a total length of 5 m -7 m. 
  • The elevator cabins measures at least 109 cm x 140 cm. 
  • All evaluated passageways/doors available to the guests are at least 90 cm wide.
  • The cash desk is at its lowest point 85 cm high.  
  • The exhibits are predominately visible when seated.
  • The information on the exhibits is predominately readable when seated. 

Educational Centre

  • There are one marked parking spaces for people with disabilities (parking space size: 350 cm x 500 cm).
  • The path from the car park to the entrance is 10 m long. 
  • The building is steplessly accessible via the side entrance with ramp. 
  • The ramp has a maximum gradient of 5 % and a total length of 3 m. 
  • All evaluated rooms and facilities available to the guests are steplessly accessible at ground level or via  a ramp or an elevator.
  • The elevator cabins measures 109 cm x 140 cm. 
  • All evaluated passageways/doors available to the guests are at least 90 cm wide.
  • The exhibits are predominately visible when seated.
  • The information on the exhibits is predominately readable when seated. 
  • There are wheelchair accessible tables available in the restaurant „Spiesbergers Alpenküche“ (maximum height 80 cm, wheelchair accessible at a height of 67 cm and a depth of 30 cm).

Outdoor area and guided tours 

  • External paths paths in the nature discovery area are at least 150 cm wide, in most cases not easy to walk on and drive on and have a maximum longitudinal gradient of up to 12 %. 
  • There is partial seating available.
  • Guided tours for people with walking impairments and wheelchair users are offered on request. A reservation in advance is not necessary.
  • Mobile or fixed seats are available for people with walking disabilities, which may be used during the guided tour.
  • The entire route of the guided tour is steplessly variable for wheelchair users. 
  • Offered aids:  wheelchair, wheeled walker, Shuttle service between education and information centre

Public toilet for people with disabilities (left side in the information centre) 

  • The manoeuvring spaces are:
    in front of the toilet and the washbasin at least 150 cm x 150 cm;
    left of the toilet at least 90 cm x 70 cm, no manoeuvring space on the right.
  • There are grab rails available on the right and left of the toilet. The grab rail on the left of the toilet can be flipped-up.
  • The sink is wheelchair compatible.
  • The mirror can be seen while standing or sitting.
  • An alarm trigger is not available. 

 Public toilet for people with disabilities (right side in the information centre)

  • The manoeuvring spaces are:
    in front of the toilet and the washbasin at least 150 cm x 150 cm;
    right of the toilet at least 90 cm x 70 cm, no manoeuvring space on the left.
  • There are grab rails available on the right and left of the toilet. The grab rail on the right of the toilet can be flipped-up.
  • The sink is wheelchair compatible.
  • The mirror is not visible while sitting.
  • An alarm trigger is not available. 

 Public toilet for people with disabilities  (Educational Centre) 

  • The manoeuvring spaces are:
    in front of the toilet and the washbasin at least 150 cm x 150 cm;
    right of the toilet 95 cm x 69 cm and left of the toilet 88 cm x 54 cm.
  • There are grab rails available on the right and left of the toilet. The grab rails can be flipped-up.
  • The sink is wheelchair compatible.
  • The mirror can be seen while standing or sitting.
  • An alarm trigger is not available.

Some information on accessibility are listed below. For detailed information please see the evaluation report.

  • Assistance dogs are allowed.
  • External paths mainly are rich in contrast or tactilely detectable sidewalk boundaries.
  • The entrances to the information and education center are visually rich in contrast and can be recognised by a tactile change in the floor covering.
  • The house signage is designed in clearly legible, contrasting font.
  • Glass doors are usually provided with safety markings.
  • An outgoing emergency call in the elevator is confirmed audibly. The break position is announced by spoken commands. The operating controls are visually rich in contrast and tactilely detectable.
  • Alternatively stairs are available.
  • At least at the first and last step, stairs have visually contrasting edges.
  • Stairs have handrails on both sides.
  • The exhibits are usually well illuminated.
  • The information on the exhibits is predominately provided in writing and is visually rich in contrast.
  • There is audible information on the exhibits.
  • There is no menu available in large print or braille.
  • Guided tours for people with visual impairments and blind people are offered on request. A reservation in advance is necessary.
  • Tactilely detectable exhibits are integrated in the guided tour.
  • An audio guide is available which can be operated independently by people with visual impairments / blind people.

Some information on accessibility are listed below. For detailed information please see the evaluation report.There is no clearly visible alarm.

  • There is an audio induction loop system at the conference room.
  • An outgoing emergency call in the elevator is confirmed visually.
  • Alternatively stairs are available.
  • There is audible information on the exhibits.
  • Technical possibilities of information for people with hearing impairment/deaf people: Multi-media screens, audio guides, interactive stations
  • In the restaurant there are tables with bright and glare-free lighting, on which there are no lamps standing or hanging that interfere with the field of vision or eye contact.
  • There is no seating area with low background noises (e.g. corner seating, separate room).
  • Guided tours for people with hearing impairment and deaf people (in German sign language) are offered. A reservation in advance is necessary.
  • Guided tours with FM systems (e.g. headphones, neck loops) are available for people with hearing impairments.

  • Name and logo of the information center are clearly visible from the outside.
  • The objective of the path usually is within sight or there are signs at a constantly visible distance.
  • There is no information in easy language.
  • In the restaurant "Spiesbergers Alpenküche" there is no menu with pictures of the dishes, the dishes are not presented visibly (buffet, bar).
  • Information for orientation is with pictorial symbols (pictograms, photorealistic representation).
  • The information on the exhibits is displayed photo realistically and predominately provided in writing, but not in easy language.
  • Guided tours for people with cognitive impairments are offered on request. A reservation in advance is not necessary.
  • The guided tour for people with cognitive impairments is given using easy language.
  • The contents (e.g. exhibits) of the guided tour for people with cognitive impairments are easy to understand or are explained in a way that is easy to understand (e.g. visually).
