Description

The Glentleiten open-air museum is the largest open-air museum in southern Bavaria. Visitors can expect more than 60 original preserved buildings, which give an insight into the rural everyday life of the people of Upper Bavaria. On the extensive grounds there are not only walk-in buildings but also gardens, forests and meadows based on the historical model of the cultural landscape.  All areas relevant for testing meet the quality criteria of the label "Accessibility certified - partially accessible for people with walking disabilities ".  

Some information on accessibility are listed below. For detailed information please see the evaluation report.

  • Parking spaces are available for people with disabilities.
  • There is a bus stop “Schlehdorf-Glentleiten Freilichtmuseum - Großweil” 30 meters away. 
  • Most of the rooms and facilities that can be used by guests are accessible without steps/at ground level or by elevator. In several buildings, the upper floors are only accessible via stairs. 
  • The main paths are 200 cm wide and in some cases not easy to walk or drive on.
  • The terrain is hilly, so there are always inclines / declines of up to max. 13% to overcome.
  • Almost all doors/passages that can be used by guests and are raised are at least 80 cm wide.
  • The checkout counter is 75 cm high at its lowest point. 
  • Exhibits and information can mainly be viewed while seated.
  • Seating is available.
  • There are public restrooms for people with disabilities that can be accessed from both sides (at least 90 cm). There are can be flipped-up grab rails to the left and right of the toilet.
  • There are wheelchair accessible tables in the Glentleiter Wirtschaft & Brauerei (entrance building, upper floor) (maximum height 80 cm, wheelchair accessible at a height of 67 cm and a depth of 30 cm). 
  • Guided tours are offered for people with walking disabilities and wheelchair users. Advance booking is necessary. 
  • Mobile or fixed seating is available for people with walking disabilities, which can be used during the tour.

  • Assistance dogs are allowed in all relevant areas.
  • The walkway boundaries of the main paths are predominantly tactile and visually rich in contrast.
  • The entrance area of the main building is visually contrasted with its surroundings.
  • In the elevator of the main building, an outgoing emergency call is confirmed acoustically, e.g. by an intercom system. Alternatively, stairs are available.
  • A tactile model of the museum grounds and a digital media table are available in the foyer.
  • In building 21 - “House for feeling, hearing and understanding” - there is an inclusive presentation for people with visual impairments and blind people. 
  • There are listening stations in every room, all labels/text panels in braille and pyramid writing as well as many tactile elements. The upper floor is only accessible via a steep staircase.
  • In some of the other exhibition areas, there is a visual contrast between the exhibits and the surroundings. The exhibits are mostly well lit. The exhibit signage is predominantly visually rich in contrast. 
  • Guided tours are offered for visually impaired and blind people. Advance booking is necessary.

  • There is no audio induction loop system available. 
  • In the elevator of the main building (catering area), an outgoing emergency call in the elevator is confirmed acoustically, but not visually. Alternatively, stairs are available.
  • Information about the exhibits is mainly provided in writing.
  • Tables with bright and glare-free lighting are available in the catering areas, with no lamps standing or hanging on them that interfere with the field of vision or eye contact.
  • Guided tours are offered for people with hearing impairments and for deaf people in German sign language. 
  • It is necessary to book in advance for a guided tour.
