Hall of Liberation Kelheim
Description
The Kelheim Liberation Hall towers high above the old town of Kelheim, at the entrance to the Weltenburger Enge nature reserve. It offers the most beautiful view of the town as well as the Danube and Altmühl valleys.
High above the Wittelsbach town of Kelheim towers its landmark, visible from afar: the Hall of Liberation. King Ludwig I of Bavaria had the imposing circular building erected here on Kelheim's Michelsberg hill as a memorial and reminder of the victorious Napoleonic wars and the Battle of Leipzig.
Today it offers the most beautiful view over the old town and its special location between the Danube and the Altmühl. Inside the Liberation Hall, 34 victory goddesses join hands and demonstrate the strength of the unity with which Napoleon was ultimately defeated.
You can reach the Befreiungshalle via an asphalt path. An elevator leads to the large viewing platform in the entrance area. The interior of the hall can be reached at ground level. Between the parking lot and the monument is the visitor center with ticket sales, a souvenir store and a café. Handicapped accessible toilets are available in the visitor center as well as in the outdoor area of the Liberation Hall.
