Description

The AURA-HOTEL Saulgrub is particularly well suited for recreation and further education for blind and visually impaired people. It is surrounded by a large park, in the midst of lush mountain meadows, framed by the mountains of the Ammergebirge at an altitude of 900 meters, between the moor spa Bad Kohlgrub and the passion play location Oberammergau, in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and is fully adapted to the needs of its guests. 

This includes a rich program of events for leisure, family and continuing education. The varied offer of guest services ranges from walks & hikes, excursions, reading aloud from the daily newspaper, bowling, to cultural evening events with dance, readings, theater and much more. 

The adjoining conference building offers optimal facilities for seminars and training courses.

Some information on accessibility are listed below. For detailed information please see the evaluation report.

  • There are two marked parking spaces for people with disabilities.
  • The path from the parking lot and to the hotel entrance is easy to walk and drive on and has a maximum longitudinal gradient of 6% over 5 meters.
  • The hotel is steplessly accessible.
  • All evaluated rooms and facilities available to the guests are accessible at ground level or by elevator.
  • The elevator cabins are at least 110 cm x 140 cm in size.
  • All evaluated passageways/doors available to the guests are at least 79 cm wide. There are exceptions in the wellness area and the public WC in the main building.
  • The hotel reception desk is 105 cm high at its lowest point. Another equivalent means of communication is available.
  • All dining rooms are located on the ground floor of the hotel. There are wheelchair compatible tables in every dining room.
  • There are public WCs for people with disabilities on the first floor of the main building, in the wellness area and on the second floor of the seminar building.

Room no. 182 (ground floor, double room)

  • The manoeuvring spaces are:
    in front of essential furnishings (e.g. wardrobes) 112 cm x 87 cm;
    to the left of the bed 46 cm x 183 cm; to the right of the bed 150 cm x 200 cm.
  • The bed is 56 cm high.
  • The manoeuvring spaces in the bathroom are:
    in front of the washbasin 200 cm x 200 cm; in front of the WC 200 cm x 180 cm;
    to the left of the WC 125 cm x 71 cm; to the right of the WC 33 cm x 71 cm.
  • There are grab rails to the left and right of the WC. Both grab rails can be folded up.
  • The washbasin is wheelchair compatible and the mirror can be seen while sitting or standing. 
  • The threshold-free shower measures 180 cm x 180 cm. Grab rails and a shower seat are provided.
  • An alarm trigger is available.

Room no. 209 (1st floor, double room)

  • The manoeuvring spaces are:
    in front of essential furnishings (e.g. wardrobes) 185 cm x 200 cm;
    to the left of the bed 54 cm x 240 cm; to the right of the bed 150 cm x 200 cm.
  • The bed is 55 cm high.
  • The door threshold to the balcony is 10 cm high.
  • The manoeuvring spaces in the bathroom are:
    in front of the washbasin 190 cm x 107 cm; in front of the WC 200 cm x 98 cm;
    to the left of the WC 36 cm x 71 cm; to the right of the WC 63 cm x 71 cm.
  • There are grab rails to the left and right of the WC. The grab rail on the right can be folded up. 
  • The washbasin has limited access and the mirror can be seen while sitting or standing. 
  • The threshold-free shower measures 140 cm x 120 cm. Grab rails and a shower seat are provided.
  • An alarm trigger is available.

Public WC for people with disabilities (ground floor)

  • The door is 74 cm wide.
  • The manoeuvring spaces are:
    97 cm x 138 cm in front of the washbasin; 138 cm x 97 cm in front of the WC;
    to the left of the WC 82 cm x 70 cm; to the right of the WC 34 cm x 70 cm.
  • There is a grab rail to the right of the WC. 
  • The washbasin is wheelchair compatible and the mirror can be seen while sitting or standing. 
  • There is a cord as an alarm trigger.

Wellness area (basement)

  • Door widths in the wellness area are smaller than 79 cm: Gym 78 cm, sauna 54 cm (door threshold 9 cm), infrared cabin 60 cm
  • The doorway to the shower is 72 cm wide. There are no grab rails in the shower. A shower seat can be provided.

Sanitary room in the wellness area

  • The manoeuvring spaces are:
    165 cm x 180 cm in front of the washbasin and WC;
    to the left of the WC 30 cm x 57 cm; to the right of the WC 136 cm x 57 cm.
  • There are grab rails to the left and right of the toilet. Both grab rails can be folded up.
  • The washbasin has limited access.
  • The threshold-free shower is 115 cm x 145 cm. Grab rails and a shower seat are available.
  • An alarm trigger is available.

Public WC for people with disabilities in the seminar building (1st floor)

  • The manoeuvring spaces are:
    in front of the washbasin 116 cm x 235 cm; in front of the WC 236 cm x 115 cm;
    to the left of the WC 136 cm x 67 cm; to the right of the WC 105 cm x 67 cm.
  • There are grab rails to the left and right of the WC. Both grab rails can be folded up.
  • The washbasin is wheelchair compatible and the mirror can be seen while sitting or standing. 
  • There is a cord as an alarm trigger.

  • Assistance dogs may be brought along. There is accommodation for guide dogs with a dog washroom, blanket and bowl service for dogs.
  • High-contrast visual and tactile guidance strips lead to the building entrances.
  • Inside, there is also a guidance system with floor indicators to the relevant areas. Alternatively, the wall can be used as an orientation aid.
  • All elevated areas that can be used by guests are well lit, i.e. bright and glare-free.
  • The building signage is designed in easy-to-read, high-contrast lettering. There are Braille markings on the doors and stairs in the main building.
  • The room keys are also marked with Braille (room number), as are the handrails in front of the guest rooms.
  • In the elevators, an emergency call is confirmed acoustically. The stopping position is announced by voice.
  • The stairs in the hotel and in the seminar building have visually contrasting edges. There are handrails on both sides that continue horizontally.
  • The changing menu is displayed in Braille at reception. It hangs outside the dining area in large print and can also be heard as a voice message. Buffet assistance is available in the dining room.
  • There is a library with books in Braille to borrow and a reading system.
  • The park is illuminated and has specially marked circular paths.
  • There is a guest service with daily guided walks and excursions.
  • Aids: reading device, screen reader, computer and television with voice output, telephone information system, large-button telephone, canes for the blind, exhibition of aids with sales, computer system with Braille display, DAISY player, tandem bicycles, tactile board and card games, showdown, talking clocks/thermometers, relief map of the surrounding area

  • The alarm is clearly audible throughout the building.
  • There is an inductive hearing system in the Hörnle, Pürschling/Schergen and Laber-Saal conference rooms, but not at reception.
  • In both elevators, an emergency call is confirmed audibly. Alternatively, stairs are available.
  • In the dining rooms, there are tables with bright and glare-free lighting, with no lamps standing or hanging that restrict the field of vision. There are also tables with low ambient noise.

Rooms 182 and 209 (double room)

  • There is at least one freely available socket near the bed.
  • Knocking on the room doors is not indicated by a flashing signal.
  • Wi-Fi is offered.
